Our Mission

We aim to bring together our northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan communities to explore an array of exciting flavors and options in the vastly expanding plant-based eating world. By sharing new vegan products and services and providing speakers, we promote plant-based diets for health, compassion and environmental conservation. We encourage everyone to make healthy food choices for their own lives and to support our local vegan-friendly businesses and organizations.

What is VegFest?

VegFest is an annual food festival held in cities around the world to promote plant-based eating, vegan lifestyles, compassion for animals and conservation of the environment. Vegfests typically include speakers on healthy eating, animal protection and environmental sustainability; cooking demos with free samples; vendors for food, cosmetics, clothing and other goods that are produced without animal ingredients; and often entertainment such as live music or movies.

EVERYONE is welcome and invited to veg fests! Visitors discover products, make connections with local vendors, watch plant-based cooking demonstrations, attend lectures and receive resources if they wish to learn how a plant-based diet could work for them.

Why Michiana?

Until 2018, our area appeared to be quite empty on this map listing VegFests in the U.S. This is now changing! Michiana has become increasingly vegan friendly with supportive restaurants and businesses in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Michigan City, Fort Wayne, Niles, Berrien Springs, Three Oaks, Stevensville, Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, and Kalamazoo, to name only a few in Indiana and Michigan.

It was high time for VegFest 2018 in our area!

Michiana enjoys two active Meetup groups, VegMichiana Meetup in the South Bend area and Kalamazoo Meetup; two thriving Facebook groups, VegMichiana and Vegans of Michiana, and the new website Vegan Michiana.

Please keep coming back as we update our website for VegFest 2019! And don't forget to contact us with any question or comment.

What is the Deeper Purpose of VegFests?

Eating a healthier plant-based diet can prevent and even reverse major chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes.

Animal agriculture impacts the environment in many ways: it destroys natural animal and plant habitats through deforestation; it makes excessive use of water; the methane gas released by cows and other farmed animals contributes massively to global warming; runoff waters from fertilizers cause pollution and dead zones in the oceans.

VegFests promote the many benefits of a plant-based diet by highlighting delicious vegan foods through educational lectures, cooking demonstrations and displays by vegan-friendly businesses and nonprofit organizations.
